Who We Are
Our Story
Present Day Haliburton Bus Lines had its beginnings in 1947 by Albert J (Ab) Larue with his first bus purchase. Larue was a community person supporting minor hockey as a coach and manager, and was the driving force for the construction of a new arena in 1965. The arena was renamed in 2013 to AJ Larue Arena and has enabled the establishment of Haliburton Hockey Haven. A large part of the bus lines summer business was providing transportation for Hockey Haven and other summer camps in Haliburton County.
Ownership of the bus lines by Larue enabled transportation for many hockey teams, one of which was owned by Larue and his son Scott, The Haliburton Huskies. Larue Bus Lines grew the business and built the bus garage in 1965, which we are still operating out of today.
Larue sold the company to Travelways in 1972, and on April 1, 1978 a new bus operator, Northernways Transit Limited, owned by RJ Brohm, a real estate broker and Scott Larue purchased the assets and bus garage. Northernways Transit Ltd operated for 21 years. Jack and Lynda Brohm both were involved in running the everyday operations of the family business. Michael Brohm, son of Jack and Lynda joined the company in 1988 providing school bus fleet maintenance for 35 years and is still in the shop today.
Northernways Transit sold the family business in 1999, and throughout the years there have been many acquisitions by many operators, to what is now Haliburton Bus Lines. Throughout the transitions, there was only one constant to the business – delivering children safely to school and home again.
